Soils are of crucial importance for the human well-being, as they provide a variety of functions and services including food and biomass production, filtering of water and contaminants, and storage of nutrients and carbon. However, soils are globally threatened by a range of processes that might compromise food security and environmental quality in our near future. In my research I aim to study the impact of some drivers of soil degradation (contamination, climate change and eutrophication) on soil functioning, and to propose strategies for improving soil quality and restoring the provision of ecosystem services by soils.
